Vanessa’s Charities

Over the past few months, Vanessa has gotten her Twitter #Team very interested in helping with raising monies, awareness and donations for her favorite causes.

Here are descriptions of the two charities she is working with at the moment. Please go to their websites and learn more.

What do they do? Who do they help?

SOJOURN provides battered women and their children a safe space to regroup, rebuild, and reestablish their self-esteem and lives.

SOJOURN honors diversity, serving without discrimination clients of any class, culture, race, ethnicity, age, faith, sexual orientation, physical and mental ability or immigration status, including those who are traditionally underserved.

SOJOURN fosters solidarity among women and children, educates the community and society, and is committed to effecting political and social change through grassroots activism and a philosophy of individual empowerment.

Their website is:

 Nkosi’s Haven

The following is taken from the Nkosi’s Haven site:

Nkosi’s Haven is a recognized NGO in South Africa that has been in operation since 1999 offering holistic care and support for  destitute HIV/AIDS infected mothers, her children, and resulting AIDS orphans (infected or not).

Nkosi’s Haven is named after Nkosi Johnson, the young AIDS activist who passed away on International Children’s Day on June 1st 2001, who dearly wanted a facility that would care for the mom and her child.  He had been separated from his mom because of the HIV diagnosis and he never wanted that to happen to any other child.  He also wanted HIV positive people to be cared for without discrimination or prejudice.

The website to donate funds and to learn more about this wonderful organization is: or to donate items: You can also follow them on Twitter: @NkosisHaven

I will be dedicating a few blog entries in this new section to both of these charities. Please look for the entries over the next few days. As things get moving along, I will be adding new entries with new information for how you can help these worthy causes.

There will be needed items lists added for both Nkosi’s Haven and Sojourn. Also, there will be ways you can donate, other than what I just listed.

One of the wonderful things Vanessa is offering are pajamas that she has designed herself & is working on them as I type. She is having them made for children from newborn to 10 years old, made out of organic materials. When you order one pair, another is donated to an orphan living with AIDS. If you’d like to order a pair & be on the waiting list, please send an email to: Once we have a price for them, I will be posting their price and I will also have pictures of the cute jammies once they are ready. **Update on prices: $25 to $30 per pair of jammies.. Remember, it’s buy one and one will be donated to the children of Nkosi’s Haven. Please follow @GagooJammies on Twitter.

Again, please look for new information, Tweets from Vanessa (@VanessaMarcilG) and me (@SonnyandBrenda) @GagooJammies

Thank you for taking the time to learn about these wonderful organizations and for possibly donating to such amazing causes.

Bye, Bye Robin

Goodbye Robin Soltini-Scorpio-Drake… Thank you for all your years in Port Charles, NY. Thank you for falling in love with bad-boy, rolling-stone-off-of-the-street, Stone and giving us one of the best and poignant storylines ever written. Thank you for being one of the only characters in the past 10 years who had heart & soul on the show. Thank you for being the conscience of Port Charles when the rest of the city has none.  Thank you for being friends with Sonny, even though it has been hard at times, but, know that you usually are the one who can see him for who he is, love him anyway and who has always been a constant in his life. Thank you for being Brenda’s friend and always being there for her. You will be missed, you will be remembered. The S&Bers will miss you & we will always love you.

Excerpt from Soap Opera Digest:

GH’S McCULLOUGH LEAVING: It’s true: GH’s Kimberly McCullough (Robin) is exiting Port Charles, but will air into the early months of 2012. “Kimberly McCullough has decided to pursue her dream of directing full-time, so she has decided to leave GENERAL HOSPITAL as storyline dictates,” says a show spokesperson. “Expect a poignant and must watch storyline for Robin and Patrick.” This announcement comes hot on the heels of the news that Jonathan Jackson (Lucky) has also opted out.

Good luck to Kimberly in all her new ventures. I wish her much success, happiness and an interesting life ahead! While she will be missed on GH, she has so many new possibilities opening up for her. She is so talented, beautiful and smart… I bet it won’t be long until we see more of what she has been working on. Her movie, “Nice Guys Finish Last” has achieved some accolades and won awards.. Kim has a very bright future ahead of her!

Thank you, Kimberly for all your years with us. It has been more than wonderful to watch you grow up as I grew up. You’re a part of the fabric of my life and I love that you are.

How I became Ro….

My most asked question about me: “Wait! Your name isn’t Ro?”

I go by cassieann1 on the board. When I joined back in 2002, I never dreamed I would be part of a community still, almost 10 years later. I made some amazing friends along the way (Lisa, Vani and many others) and the three of us went from just posters on the board, to becoming the admins of our wonderful safe haven.

Long ago, maybe 2004, Lisa, Vani and I were fooling around in our “Bored at Work” thread on the board. We spent many days in that thread, going back and forth; lots of nonsense but plenty of bonding moments. Silliness insued and one day, we were talking about how wonderful the friendship between Brenda, Lois and Robin was. Soon, Vani was calling herself Bren, Lisa was Lois/Lo and I became Robin/Ro. For Lisa and I our nicknames stuck.

I’ve proudly adopted Ro as my alter ego. I love the character of Robin. I love how she has grown and how she is always Sonny and Brenda’s friend. She has called them both out on stuff but has always remained on their side. No matter what, I will always love the character of Robin. I remember when she arrived, as a very little girl, in Port Charles, with her doll, “Luv” with the black pearl eyes….

I never had a nickname growing up so I’ve happily adopted “Ro” as my “other” name. I will answer to it in public also. 🙂

Oh, my real name is Erika, by the way.

You and I

Inspiration comes in many different forms. It can be a word, a look, a feeling  or a vision. It comes and hits you square in the face like a ton of bricks sometimes.

The other day we all happened to be playing on Twitter when Vanessa tweeted something to us:

Vanessa Marcil G
In the end…………..”you and I” LG BBC to SC 😉
That tweet did so much for the feeling low #TeamS&B. We needed that tweet pretty bad at that point. Now, we understood most of the tweet except for the LG. Then it hit one of us that You and I is a Lady Gaga song! We went and listened and gosh, it is such a S&B song!! Eeeeeeeeeeeeee!!
We talked Shelby (she didn’t need too much convincing!) to make us a mvid… I just want to share what Vanessa had inspired in Shelby to make. It is beautiful, fun and hopeful.
Thank you to Shelby  for making it! xo
Thank you to Vanessa for being S&B’s biggest fan and for feeding our need for hope, positivity and happiness. We love you for it. xoxo

4. often HopeChristianity The theological virtue defined as the desire and search for a future good, difficult but not impossible to attain with God’s help.
5. Archaic Trust; confidence.
This is what Sonny and Brenda fans feed off of. It could be a word spoken by Sonny or another character, a sweet tweet tweeted to us during the day by a certain you-know-who or it could just be a feeling.
I, personally, don’t believe the ride is over for us. I believe there is more to come. Not sure exactly when to expect it but in comparison to the 2002-03 return and this past return by Vanessa, I think my hope is stronger and has more weight to it.
The past 3 months as a fan have been every hard. We are such a strong fanbase but we’ve splintered and scattered. Some are true S&Bers, some are more BFFs and some are SFFs. There are times we have words over our faves. The Sonny fans just want their guy happy. The Brenda fans just want their girl back. The S&Bers hold on to the wedding, their beautiful words and amazing history. We want our happy ending.  Maybe we hold on too hard, but that is what we have done since they got together in the very beginning. We have held on to hope that S&B will overcome the crazy odds and find their way back home again. Home is always when they are together. They have a peacefulness and an amazing love that shows through the screen. The writing has been consistently horrible for some time now. We’ve been screwed as S&Bers more times than I’d like to recount.
But, as always, the S&B fanbase has always been strong, full of hope and faith. We don’t know the future of GH, we don’t know what is in store for Vanessa or Maurice. We do know this, from now until the end, when ever that is, S&Bers will hang on. We will bide our time, hold on to hope and have faith in the words both Vanessa and Maurice told us, more than once… Brenda/Vanessa will come back and S&B will be together again in the end.
I haven’t had much to say, not much to blog about. Wind has been taken out of my sails in many ways but, I always have hope, not only for S&B, but for all of us in general. There’s the future to look to, there’s fanfic (lot’s of awesome stories out there!) and we have each other. Our numbers may have dwindled over the past few weeks but they did each time Vanessa was off GH. There were always a core few who banded together on the board, now we are just a little more spread out between the board, Twitter and Facebook. We’ll all meet up when the time is right again. We always do.
